Rotterdam Airport renamed to Rotterdam- The Hague Airport
ROTTERDAM - The new name for EHRD will be from wednesday Rotterdam The Hague Airport. "The changing of name is part of the international positioning of metropolregion Rotterdam/The Hague", according to The Hague.

Major Ahmed Aboutaleb of Rotterdam and his collegue Jozias van Aartsen of The Hague will re-open the airport, which will be happened with their aldermans Lucas Bolsius (Rotterdam) and Frits Huffnagel (The Hague). The aldermans will christen a Transavia.com aircraft that will be named Rotterdam The Hague Airport.

Huffnagel announced last year that the airport will change his name. Huffnagel said that "The Hague is an international city and an international city needs an airport". Rotterdam and The Hague are linked since 2005 with a lightrail line (named RandstadRail), which is operated by RET (Rotterdam- The Hague) and HTM (The Hague- Zoetermeer).

The idea to rename the airport is not a new topic. The two cities were in talk since 1996. Rotterdam Airport, which was named Zestienhoven before, is opened in 1956 and was built to replace the destroyed Waalhaven Airport (to avoid that the German will use the airport during the occupation of Holland). RTM is owned by Schiphol Group.

Pictures will be posted later on.

According to luchtvaartnieuws.nl, a KLM Boeing 737 took of from a taxiway Wednesday evening.

"The aircraft was cleared to take off from the Zwanenburg baan (36C) but took off from the parallel taxiway instead. According to air traffic control the aircraft departed without problems, but without adhering to the procedures.

All three parties involved (KLM, LVNL, Schiphol) will not comment further on the matter.

The incident was reported to the Onderzoeksraad voor Veiligheid (Investigation Board) which will investigate the incident. According to a spokesman, this is a runway incursion and it is classified as a serious incident.

The president of the Dutch ALPA, Evert van Zwol, speculates that recent snowfall might have played a roll in the incident. He also said that "this shows us that it is possible", but he also noted that he don't want it to happen again.
