History of Juhu Aerodrome (from Midday)
http://www.mid-day.c...4/may/82803.htm
1927: During the British rule, the Juhu aerodrome was built for landing seaplanes for transporting passengers, cargo and post.
1928: With the formation of the Bombay flying club, the aviation industry slowly started functioning.
1934: JRD Tata landed at this airport from Karachi, and the aviation industry in India formally took off.
1953: The smaller runway at Juhu aerodrome was not sufficient for larger aircraft and a new aerodrome was built at Santacruz. Air-India and Indian Airlines started operation.
1980: Juhu aerodrome limped on slowly.
1985: With the launch of Pawan Hans helicopters, the activities at Juhu increased. Around 60 to 70 aircraft and helicopters land and take off every day.
Today: The aerodrome caters to the need of private aviation companies and allows servicing of smaller aircraft. As of now, UB Air, Pavan Hans helicopters, Millionair helicopters, Tata Airlines (small planes), Mesco helicopters use the Juhu aerodrome facility regularly.
